By submitting a watch, component, or other item to Gilded Standard Plating Company ("Gilded Standard," "we," "us," or "our") for plating, refinishing, restoration, modification, inspection, or any other service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the following Terms & Conditions.
By submitting an item to Gilded Standard, you authorize us to perform the services requested, including disassembly, cleaning, surface preparation, plating, finishing, reassembly, inspection, and any reasonably necessary procedures required to complete the requested service.
We reserve the right to refuse service to any item at our discretion, including items that are damaged, improperly assembled, previously modified, coated, plated, polished, refinished, counterfeit, or otherwise unsuitable for the requested service.
If an item is determined to be unsuitable after receipt, we will contact the customer regarding available options. Additional preparation or restoration work may require additional charges and customer authorization.
By submitting an item, you represent and warrant that:
Gilded Standard is not responsible for determining ownership, authenticity, provenance, or legal title to any item submitted.
All items are inspected upon receipt to the extent reasonably practicable.
Customers acknowledge that watches and other precision instruments may contain pre-existing:
Unless expressly agreed otherwise in writing, Gilded Standard's service is limited to the specific services ordered.
We do not guarantee that pre-existing conditions will be corrected or concealed.
Professional disassembly and reassembly are often necessary to properly perform plating.
Because watches and their components are handled individually, minor handling marks, tool marks, micro-scratches, or other small cosmetic marks may occur during normal disassembly, preparation, plating, finishing, or reassembly.
The customer acknowledges and accepts this inherent risk.
Gilded Standard will exercise reasonable care and use appropriate tools and procedures. However, we are not responsible for minor cosmetic marks that may reasonably result from handling or from pre-existing conditions becoming visible after the item is cleaned or refinished.
Cleaning, disassembly, stripping, preparation, plating, and reassembly may reveal conditions that were not visible before service.
These may include, without limitation:
Gilded Standard is not responsible for failures resulting from pre-existing conditions, concealed damage, prior workmanship, improper prior servicing, or defects in the item itself.
Plating is a surface-finishing process and is subject to the physical and chemical characteristics of the underlying material and existing surface.
Results may vary depending upon:
While Gilded Standard makes every reasonable effort to achieve a consistent, high-quality finish, no plating result can be guaranteed to be perfectly identical to another piece, photograph, factory component, or reference sample.
Differences in lighting, photography, viewing angle, surface texture, material composition, and age may affect perceived color and luster.
Gilded Standard may use genuine reference components or reference samples when evaluating color and finish.
Reference matching is an effort to reproduce the desired visual characteristics. It is not a representation that the resulting component is an original factory component or that the work was performed by the original manufacturer.
Natural variation may occur between components due to material composition, age, wear, lighting, surface condition, and manufacturing tolerances.
Gilded Standard does not guarantee the water resistance of any watch before, during, or after service.
Plating, disassembly, reassembly, gasket condition, crystal condition, crown condition, case condition, movement condition, and prior servicing may all affect water resistance.
Unless expressly agreed in writing, water-resistance testing is not included in standard plating services.
Customers should have their watch independently pressure tested by a qualified watchmaker or service center before exposing it to water.
Gilded Standard is not responsible for water intrusion, moisture damage, condensation, movement damage, or other water-related damage.
Unless expressly included in the agreed scope of work, Gilded Standard does not service, repair, regulate, restore, or warrant the internal mechanical or electronic operation of a watch movement.
If movement-related issues are discovered or arise, the customer may be required to obtain service from a qualified watchmaker.
Gilded Standard is not responsible for defects, failures, incompatibility, poor fit, improper dimensions, or damage arising from aftermarket, counterfeit, modified, previously repaired, or customer-supplied components.
If a customer-supplied component is found to be unsuitable for the requested service, we may decline to process it or require additional authorization before proceeding.
Customers are responsible for securely packaging and shipping their items to Gilded Standard.
Risk of loss or damage during inbound shipment remains with the customer until the item is received by Gilded Standard.
Customers are strongly encouraged to use a reputable carrier, appropriate packaging, tracking, and adequate insurance.
Gilded Standard is not responsible for loss, theft, delay, or damage occurring before an item is received by us.
Once service is completed and the item is released to the carrier, risk of loss or damage during return transit transfers to the customer to the extent permitted by applicable law and the applicable carrier terms.
Gilded Standard will package completed items using reasonable care and will use the agreed return shipping method.
Gilded Standard is not responsible for:
Customers are responsible for selecting and maintaining appropriate shipping insurance unless otherwise expressly agreed in writing.
If an item appears to have been damaged during transportation, the customer should immediately document the condition of the package and item and notify the carrier.
Gilded Standard will cooperate reasonably with the customer in documenting or pursuing a carrier claim when appropriate.
However, Gilded Standard does not guarantee reimbursement for transit-related loss or damage and is not the insurer of the customer's property.
Upon completion of service, items are returned in the condition resulting from the agreed work, together with any pre-existing conditions and any minor handling marks reasonably associated with professional servicing.
All items are accepted and returned on an "AS IS" basis, except for the limited workmanship warranty expressly provided below.
Gilded Standard warrants its workmanship for the lifetime of the plated finish against defects directly attributable to our workmanship under normal use.
This limited warranty covers issues such as:
If a valid workmanship issue occurs, Gilded Standard will, at its discretion, inspect the item and repair or replate the affected area or component at no charge for the covered workmanship.
The warranty applies only to workmanship performed by Gilded Standard and does not constitute a warranty of the watch, movement, case, bracelet, crystal, components, or manufacturer's original finish.
All warranty claims must be submitted to Gilded Standard for inspection.
Customers must provide photographs and a description of the claimed issue before returning an item.
Gilded Standard reserves the right to inspect the item before determining whether a claim qualifies under the limited workmanship warranty.
If the issue is determined to be unrelated to our workmanship, the customer may be responsible for return shipping and any requested additional work.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Gilded Standard's liability arising from any service shall be limited to the amount actually paid by the customer to Gilded Standard for the specific service giving rise to the claim.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Gilded Standard shall not be liable for:
Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude or limit liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.
Gilded Standard does not represent that any serviced item will meet the original manufacturer's specifications after service.
This includes, without limitation:
Our work is an independent aftermarket finishing service.
Gilded Standard is an independent, unaffiliated service provider.
We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, authorized by, or otherwise associated with Rolex, Tudor, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Cartier, Omega, or any other watch manufacturer or trademark owner, unless expressly stated otherwise.
All brand names, trademarks, logos, model names, reference numbers, and other intellectual property belong to their respective owners.
Any use of brand names or model references by Gilded Standard is solely for the purpose of identifying the type of item being serviced or describing compatibility, reference comparison, or the requested finish.
Gilded Standard claims no ownership, rights, title, or interest in any third-party trademark, brand, logo, design, model, or other intellectual property.
Our services do not create or represent an original manufacturer product.
Gilded Standard does not authenticate watches or other items unless authentication is expressly included as a separately agreed service.
Reference numbers, model names, brand names, and customer representations regarding authenticity are accepted for service-identification purposes only.
Gilded Standard reserves the right to refuse service to any item suspected to be counterfeit or unlawfully represented.
Unless the customer expressly requests otherwise in writing before service, Gilded Standard may photograph completed work for documentation, portfolio, educational, advertising, website, and social-media purposes.
We will not intentionally publish sensitive personal information associated with the customer.
Customers may request that their specific item not be used in public marketing materials by contacting Gilded Standard before service is completed.
If unexpected conditions are discovered that require work outside the originally agreed scope, Gilded Standard may pause the service and contact the customer for authorization.
Additional work may include:
No substantial additional charge will be incurred without customer authorization, except where reasonably necessary to prevent damage to the item and where permitted by law.
Payment must be received according to the payment terms provided by Gilded Standard before the completed item is returned.
Gilded Standard reserves the right to withhold shipment until all outstanding balances have been paid.
Once work has begun, cancellation may not be possible.
Because services are custom and performed specifically for the customer's item, completed services are generally non-refundable.
If a refund or partial refund is approved, it will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
Shipping charges, payment-processing fees, third-party fees, and completed labor may be non-refundable.
Customers are responsible for providing an accurate return address and promptly receiving completed items.
If an item is returned to Gilded Standard because it was refused, undeliverable, unclaimed, or incorrectly addressed, additional shipping charges may apply.
Gilded Standard may charge reasonable storage, handling, and reshipping fees.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, items that remain unclaimed for an extended period may be subject to applicable abandoned-property or other lawful disposition procedures.
Gilded Standard shall not be responsible for delays or inability to perform caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to:
Any stated turnaround time is an estimate unless expressly guaranteed in writing.
Any quoted price, turnaround, availability, or completion date provided before physical inspection is an estimate unless expressly confirmed in writing.
Final pricing may change if the condition of the item requires additional work outside the original scope.
By submitting an item to Gilded Standard, the customer acknowledges that:
These Terms & Conditions shall be governed by the laws of the jurisdiction applicable to Gilded Standard's business, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except to the extent that applicable law requires otherwise.
Any provision determined to be unenforceable shall be modified or severed to the minimum extent necessary, while the remaining provisions shall remain in effect to the fullest extent permitted by law.
